Iconic Copy Text Block: Allow the Copying of Content From a Convenient Block

I’ve been checking out a few of the new “Featured WordPress Plugins” feature, and noticed a block that allowed for quick copying, so I had to check it out.

The plugin works by:

  • Adding a new block called Copy Box.
  • Any text entered in the sidebar is immediately copyable on the frontend.

Why I Like It

The Copy Block is incredibly simple. Perhaps too simple. There are global admin settings where you can set defaults, or you can configure things like background and text color per block.

When I mentioned simple, I mean it. So I’ll reserve this section for things I’d like this plugin to include in the future:

  • Use the built-in color palette in the block editor to choose theme colors.
  • Allow the block text to be editable on the block itself, not just the sidebar.
  • Avoid using a top-level menu for a one-tab settings panel.

Those are my only gripes.

When to Use It

Whether it’s instructor notes, a quote, or just text you want to highlight, this small block may do the trick.

With the plugin, this is the user workflow:

  • Find some text you’d like to allow copying.
  • Open the block editor, find the “Copy Box” block.
  • Paste in the text in the sidebar options for the block.
  • Publish.
  • You can now copy the contents on the frontend.

Final thoughts

I really like the simplicity of this copy block by the IconicbitsOpens in a new window team. My plugins Highlight and Share and QuotesDLX also have copy capabilities, but they’re nowhere near as easy to use as this block.

Please give this a try when you get a chance.
